Penne Palace Restaurant Website Design

Jul 19, 2023 | Website Design, Portfolio

Penne Palace is an upcoming authentic Italian restaurant that serves largely pasta dishes. They approached us looking for a modern and engaging restaurant website design to encourage potential customers to make a phone call to reserve a table.

The brief:

The restaurant had a clear goal in mind for the website, and that is they wanted to get customers from their online platform and into the restaurant. To aid with this, we used professional and enticing photography that represents the quality of the food that Penne Palace serves. They specifically wanted a website with a dark or coloured background rather than white, so we took this into account when designing.

The brand:

Penne Palace didn’t have a website to start with and very minimal branding materials. Their vision was a simplistic and functional site which visually represented their brand. With just a logo and colour palette featuring three colours, we developed this into a captivating website which fits the brand as well as being functional.

In this modern age, it is essential for a restaurant to have a website. The most important reason arguably is to allow customers near you to find and locate your business. A website with local SEO is a great tool to attract customers who are searching for restaurants on Google. It also provides an easy route for customers to contact you and connect with you on social media platforms.

The design:

The main points to consider when creating this restaurant website design were branding and user accessibility. Penne Palace needed to make sure the website was simple enough for all ages to use, whilst looking good and being visually appealing and related to the brand. To make sure we designed for these issues, we used the contrasting colours of the brand to bring structure and hierarchy to the page with dedicated sections divided with colour.

We used buttons that stand out and easy-to-read sections to guide the user through the site, with their brand fonts that have a fun and family-friendly vibe. The green accent colour was essential to break up blocks of colour in this site, as the brief specified a dark background with minimal usage of white. By using colours and imagery strategically, we were able to create a layout that keeps the users’ attention and breaks up information into a hierarchy which is easy to consume for the customer.

When designing this site, a struggle we encountered was creating a visually stimulating page with such a limited colour palette. We overcame this with a modern layout that considers imagery highly and utilising the playful handwritten font used in the logo.

We utilised a modern mix of creative and professional for this restaurant website design, aiming to appeal to everybody from 9 to 90. By using playful and childish lines and typography mixed with modern layout and imagery, we managed to create a site which strongly represents the brands’ creativity and expertise in their industry. Our use of colour was focused on accessibility for this design, making sure that every inch is visible and easy to read.

Within the restaurant website design, we promote discount codes to the user to encourage the user to make a purchase and give incentives for in-person customers to visit the website and make a repeat purchase. The website also links to the restaurant’s social platforms to keep the user interacting with the brand and give them opportunities to stay connected.

Why it works:

As its customers are very presentation-based, we agreed that the website should rely largely on imagery to catch the user’s attention, without being overwhelming. By considering the restaurant’s customers and target audience when building this site, we’ve ensured that we are providing the best user experience for them whilst meeting their goals. One specific requirement for this website is that the admin team doesn’t want to consistently deal with online bookings through an application or plugin, so encouraging the user to pick up the phone and make a call was vital to the design and structure.

Mobile Design

Having a mobile-optimised website is a must-have for a restaurant or bar. Customers regularly search for places to eat while on the go, so we needed to ensure this restaurant website design was fully optimised for mobile and tablet screens while still looking good and functioning correctly.

It has been designed with the brand’s target audience in mind and represents not only the service that the restaurant provides but the atmosphere of the physical location as well as the values it supports. By using dedicated sections and links, we help the user navigate their way around the site and encourage them to make a reservation.
